Lexmark was the first company to market 4800 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi) and 3600 x 1200 dpi resolutions, develop 1200 dpi laser and inkjet printers. Lexmark reports that, unlike some of its competitors, it develops and owns the technology inside its products, therefore giving the company a competitive edge , allowing it to reduce research and development time between product launches.
Lexmark's aim is to continue to focus on the business market which represents approximately 53% of Lexmark's revenue. The business market products are largely based upon laser technology and these are sold through large account sales teams. The consumer or 'home use' market accounts for the remainder, and is focussed on the inkjet technology. The strategy used is to offer the consumer competitively priced products of a high quality that represent exceptional value to the home user and small business.
Lexmark's product range comprises of printers, scanners, copiers and fax machines. Printers make up the bulk of their product range including, inkjet printers, all in ones (printer, copier fax scanner), mono laser printers, colour laser printers, multifunction printer for networking, and dot matrix printers.
